The Earth Star Chakra For Social Connection

Earth star chakra symbol for a nature of social connection

Are you one of the growing number of people who feel alienated and long for a stronger social connection? Or any real connection? If yes, consider strengthening your relationship with your earth star chakra or Vasundhara in Sanskrit (see the image of its mandala). Learn how the earth star supports all kinds of connection and, thus, can ease feelings of alienation.

First Things First, What’s Alienation and Why Are So Many Feeling it

Alienation occurs when a person withdraws or becomes isolated from their environment or from other people (Healthline). In addition, alienation connotes involuntary, forced, or unwelcome separation or isolation.

A person can feel alienated from:

  1. close associates such as family and friends
  2. the broader immediate community as in coworkers, fellow students, neighbors
  3. societal values and norms
  4. the global community or the whole of humanity
  5. nature and the natural environment
  6. meaning, purpose, and more broadly spirituality
  7. self

Nowadays people look for a sense of belonging by owning similar things (cars, clothes), watching the same movies and TV shows, and following the same influencers on social media or other digital platforms. These commercial means of connection provide a constant feed of comparison and need. And, despite remaining unfulfilled and/or palpably lacking, users eventually become addicted, and increasingly alienated.

Furthermore, the western world, and increasingly the world in general, are obsessed with enrichment, development and change, urbanization and cosmopolitan living, all forms of technology, and more recently virtual reality. All of these foci are largely detached from or actually in conflict with nature, natural forces, and the environment.

Finally, one can argue that the world, societies, and interest groups are becoming more separate, divisive, combative, and hateful of others. Gone is the sense of shared values and being united. According to the United Nations (UN), conflict and violence are on the rise. Rather than an increase in the number of wars, conflicts are waged between non-state actors such as political militias and criminal and international terrorist groups.

In addition, most Americans would agree that the US is more divided, intolerant, and violent.

Earth Star Chakra As a Connector

Because human beings are earth-bound creatures, it goes without saying that the relationship between people and the earth is crucial, and people are actually dependent on it. Essentially all ancient and indigenous cultures embraced and even honored this relationship and often wove nature, other living things, the moon, and the cosmos into their culture and spirituality.

Even today, many people enjoy outdoor activities, dedicate time and resources to environmental initiatives, and find walking in native refreshing, soothing, and a personal reset.

First, What is the Earth Chakra

The standard better-known chakra system has seven chakras, i.e., a set of vortices of subtle life force energy located along the spine that governs and supports health and well-being. (See my blog post What Are the Chakras for more on the chakras)

However, there are numerous additional concepts of charka systems comprised of more than seven centers. The earth star chakra is lesser-known and present in a number of these expanded systems.

Its number designation varies considerably. You’ll see it referred to as the ninth, twelfth, and fourteenth just to mention a few. I’ve settled on the ninth. It’s located below the root chakra within the earth at a depth of 12 to 18 inches (30.48 to 45.72 cm). It’s also variously conceived as brown or black in color.

While some consider it an extension of the root chakra (Muladhara), others claim the reverse to be true. Given its location, strength, attributes, and expansiveness, I see it as one pole of the overall chakra system and a source of root chakra energy.

Earth Star Chakra and Social Connection

In some ways, the earth star indirectly relates to social connection. Nevertheless, its influence is still extremely significant.

Unlike the other seven chakras, it doesn’t relate directly to specific bodily functions and personality traits. Instead, it’s associated with experiences involving the self but also beyond the self such as human and universal consciousness. This includes your connection to people in general, global events, human values, and humanity. On an even higher level, it connects and grounds you in your sense of being and purpose for living within the bigger forever scheme of things.

Through the chakra system, the earth star chakra helps to build social connections mostly through the first three (lower three) chakras: the root, sacral, and solar plexus. Among other things, these three charkas support and govern safety, security, sense of self, self-worth, self-trust, personal power, authenticity, and individual spiritual beliefs and expression. In this way, the earth star is a powerhouse behind the formation of the self and an important ingredient to positive and authentic social connection.

All social connections are built on shared interests, values, and other commonalities. The more you focus on your person-to-person relationships and less on virtual competitive posturing, the more authentic your interpersonal relationships will be. And, the less alienating your engagements will be.

Connection to Earth and Other Living Things

What readily comes to mind when thinking about the properties of this chakra are nature and national forces. It can align you with the energy of all living and non-living aspects of the earth including animals and plants, minerals (e.g., crystals), elements (e.g., water and air), atmospheric forces, the moon, and the cosmos. And in so doing, you can access their wisdom and healing from their physical and metaphysical properties. This is indeed an expansive range of energies and influences.

Tapping into the earth star’s frequency, you create connections with close living beings (family, friends, and pets), or on grander levels (humanity and the natural world), and even more elevated levels (higher consciousness) through their alignment with earth energy.

Integration of Spiritual and Consciousness Expansion

The earth star grounds spiritual and metaphysical direct-experiencing into your ordinary lived experience on earth. If attended to, it can facilitate a continuum or integration of your ordinary and non-ordinary experiences (dreams, meditations, shamanism, plant medicine exploration, etc).

Its intense grounding energy stabilizes you and gives you a sense of security. Like tree roots, it deeply anchors you to earth permitting your energy bodies and consciousness to grow and expand without losing contact with the earth plane. It allows you to truly stretch yourself.

For clarification, the root chakra also offers grounding, a connection to the earth, and a force toward unifying the energy within your chakra system. It focuses on you and your personal physical and energetic systems. In contrast, the earth star is transpersonal.

How to Create a Connection With the Earth Star and Earth-Related Energies

The earth star is perhaps the easiest chakra to access and sense, even without any energy healing experience. (See my blog on how to access the earth star chakra energy.)

Access Through Intention, Visualization, and the Breath

Your energy follows your intention. You can simply intend and imagine the connection. This can be in the form of visualizing a cord or roots connecting you with the chakra within the earth. Alternatively, by using deep easy breathing to send your breath to the chakra and draw up its energy.

Presence and Earth Star Access

Also, consider cultivating presence. It’ll allow your consciousness to drop into the desired space you create through your intention, presence, and open curiosity. This is the posture from which you can connect with other aspects of nature and the cosmos. It can be subtle yet still expansive and powerful. Simply embrace it rather than question or doubt it. If you do, it’ll grow clearer, more real, and more transformative.

Earth energy makes you feel solid, grounded, and centered. It’ll give you a sense of stability and security as you shift your awareness toward it. Spending time in nature and learning about natural things can enhance your relationship with the earth and give you access to earth energy which can in turn bolster both your sense of self and your belonging to something much bigger.
