What’s the Earth Star Chakra
The earth star, or Vasundhara in Sanskrit, is the most earth-centric chakra. Located approximately 12 to 18 inches (30.48 to 45.72 cm) below the earth’s surface, it aligns with the earth’s energy and all of its natural features such as the landscapes, elements, all living creatures as well as temporal, seasonal, climatic, and lunar patterns. Additional significant attributes are the natural earthy forces such as gravity and electromagnetism. Finally, the earth and earth energy are most closely associated with the nature and influences of the divine feminine and yin as well as the star tetrahedron or Merkaba.
The earth star is critical to metaphysical, spiritual, and shamanic practices, various expansive forms of meditation, and energy healing in general. Similar to tree roots, it deeply anchors you within the earth thus allowing your energy bodies and consciousness to grow and expand without losing contact with the earth plane. The higher the non-ordinary realms of exploration, the greater the need for stronger more secure grounding. Regardless, the earth star will maintain your connection to ordinary reality and facilitate spiritual and energetic integration.
In addition, being securely harnessed to earth energy facilitates your connection and communication with animals, plants, and other natural spirits or energies. This includes interaction and guidance from animal totems and power animals as well as guidance and intuitive knowledge derived from the plant kingdom (kingdom Plantae).
As such, the relevance of earth energy to metaphysical, shamanic, and other healing practices becomes readily apparent. In addition, many people believe that the earth star resonates at the same frequency as the earth – also known as the Schumann resonance. In other words, this chakra electromagnetically aligns you with the earth.
The Root Chakra Compared to Vasundhara
The Vasundhara is like a supercharged root chakra (Muladhara), especially when it comes to grounding. These two work together grounding the entire chakra system and physical body.
However, many people innocently lump together root and earth star chakra energy and properties when there are significant differences. While they overlap in some areas such as grounding, they are distinct in many ways. The energy of root chakra is oriented toward you as an individual with a specific life here on earth. In contrast, the earth star is expansive. It surrounds you and places you within the greater contexts of all of humanity, earthly life and forces, cosmos, and cosmic consciousness.
Accessing Earth Energy Through the Earth Star Chakra
Many practices intend to strengthen the root chakra and promote grounding. But they ground more deeply than the root and go into the earth star chakra.
A wide variety of typical grounding breathing techniques use breathwork. Most commonly, the breath (exhale) is sent down through the body, and the feet chakras into the earth.
Similarly, grounding visualizations use the mind’s eye to imagine sending a cord, rope, light, etc down from the body, through the feet, and into the earth which creates an anchor within its core.
Other meditations access earth energy in a similar way but utilize the metaphor of a tree and its root system. Using the body and posture, various yoga asanas such as tree pose draw in and center your energy and align it with the earth star chakra.
