Reiki For Animals

Pets and Energy WorkYou might think: “What? Reiki for Animals?” But, did you know animals love healing energy such as Reiki, Integrated Energy Therapy (IET), etc?

Animals and Reiki

Unlike people, animals are not distracted by their “rational minds,” or by questioning their perceptions and beliefs about energy. They easily transfer sensing into knowing. In other words, animals sense energy and they get that energy healing works!

Stories of pets gathering under or near the treatment table during a session are not uncommon. In fact, they are quite common. This happens often during sessions I give in people’s homes. Lots of practitioners have made wonderful healing connections with yard and forest animals too. Many of the squirrels in my yard are absolutely enthralled with Reiki. Some will stop whatever they are doing and bask in the energy for a bit, and then suddenly hop off whenever they’ve had enough.

Animal Reiki Story

I fostered this beautiful nine-week-old shepherd puppy who had been abandoned with her siblings in West Virginia. She had a long trip to DC and a temporary stop at another foster’s home for the day. Then awoken in the evening, she was packed up and brought to my house, leaving her two other siblings for the first time. This was all so very stressful for her.

Settling down for the night was hard. She was apprehensive, fussy, and unhappy about being alone in her crate. I laid down on the floor next to the crate so I could keep her company and give her a little Reiki. She quickly settled down and slept on her own. She was so smart and thrusting that she seemed to magically slip into this routine the following nights (OK, as much as can be expected of a little one).

How to Give Energy Healing to Your Pets and Other Animals

Pets and Energy HealingHands-on energy healing can be given to pets and farm animals.

Horses love Reiki and other forms of energy work. Dogs will sometimes sit in front of me and look at me in a way that says: ‘I want a little energy healing.’ I admit this little one probably wants a little love too. But, when I gave him some energy healing, he promptly became calmer and more relaxed.

Animals receiving energy will sometimes orient particular parts of their bodies toward my hands and the flow of energy. In this way, they’re telling me what they want. They know what they like and they know what they need.

You can also work off the body in an animal’s aura or simply send or beam energy. The energy will go where the energy is needed so there’s no need to worry about a series of hand positions, which are common to Reiki treatments, but not a must.

Honor Animal Agency

I offer Reiki to animals and let them decide if they want it, and for how long. They relax into it if they want it. They may do a little self-cleaning (especially cats), but they’ll stay with it until they’re done: usually, they just get up and leave. If they don’t want a treatment – a rare occasion – they’ll move away. It’s as simple as that.

Many Reiki practitioners offer Reiki for animals and Reiki for pets.  Although still uncommon, more and more veterinarians and pet daycare facilities offer it too. They realize that it’s a great complementary healing modality for a sick or injured animal. You’d be amazed at how much emotional and mental processing your pets are doing as well. What other healing modality supports animals emotionally, mentally, and energetically?

Healing For Rescue Dogs and Puppies

Rescue animals have often had bad – even horrible – experiences. For many, their sense of trust, a basic bonding emotion, has been shattered. The energy-healing connection can release the emotions attached to those negative experiences and, in a sense, free them from their past. This allows them to form new, more positive relationships with people and other animals. Energy work is not only beneficial for animals who are sick, injured or have experienced some form of abandonment or abuse. It’s an important part of a wellness program. It offers a wonderful alternative and intimate way to communicate with an animal: something pet “owners” will really appreciate if they decide to become energy workers themselves. Anyone – absolutely anyone – can sense and channel life force energy. If not, s(he) would not be alive.

Distance Healing For Animals

Reiki also works at a distance: this is when the client, the animal, is not present or in front of the practitioner. It may sound crazy, but this is an excellent way to give healing to pets, yard critters, and other wild animals. This is how I do most animal healing. I still offer it to them as I do for hands-on healing, and I let them decide if they want it. Most times I can immediately feel them drawing energy from my hands. Distance healing is a great way to connect with an animal and learn what is going on with them. When distantly connected, I receive a lot of information from them in the form of thoughts, sensations, and other knowledge. It’s like all living things speak the language of energy. I’m convinced it’s a wonderful experience for both of us.
