Using New Moon Energy

The New Moon signifies beginnings. It starts a new moon cycle of Sliver of light for New Moon energyapproximately 28 days (27.3 more precisely). This is the time it takes for the moon to circle the earth. Using new moon energy can also support and empower your new endeavors.

A photo of the New Moon would be just black. This photo actually presents a thin sliver of the crescent waxing moon occurring just after the New Moon

New Moon Energy Qualities

New Beginnings

Metaphysically the new moon is a time to start something new. Examples include accept a new job, embrace retirement, start a new phase of life, adopt a new behavior (learn a skill or start a diet), buy or invest in something new, and start a relationship.

Because the new moon is about beginnings, it’s inherently hopeful, optimistic, and action-oriented. It’s also filled with outward energy making it yang in nature.

Additional Benefits of the New Moon

The New Moon is also the best time to stargaze because its luminance does not compete with the stars. For example, this phase of the moon allows for optimal conditions for watching active meteor showers such as the Lyrics in April, Perseids in August, and the Leonids in November (all timeframes are for the Northern Hemisphere).

The New Moon and Uncertainty

The outcome of change is a bit uncertain, and this uncertainty can create some apprehension, insecurity, and anxiety.

Thus, there are two sides to the New Moon. Each person and situation can possess a combination of hope and fear associated with the transition. It depends on the person, circumstances, and timing.

Working with New Moon Energy

For those who like ritual and working with the moon, you might want to explore your intentions and prepare yourself for a whole lunar cycle or lunar orbit leading up to the following New Moon.

Start by approaching a new lunar cycle (a new moon) with reflection on what you want to bring into your life. Then, set your intention(s) on the New Moon.

You can then take actions through the Waxing Moon phase to move forward on bringing the intention to fulfillment. Take steps in accordance with your plans or make adjustments where needed. As the Waxing Moon passes the half moon mark, begin to reflect on what you may need release or let go of in order to make space for your new intention(s).

At the Full Moon, release whatever is not needed or blocking your progress. Then, as you go through the Waning Moon phase reflect on what needs additional clearing or release. Consider any sticky resistance that you want to clear.

This brings you back to a New Moon, so get ready to manifest again with more forced intentions or completely new ones

Aromatherapy to Support New Moon Energy

See my blog on Aromatherapy, Essential Oils, and the New Moon for ideas on how to incorporate the healing properties when using the New Moon Energy to help you manifest.

The photo above is actually a photo of the very early days of a waxing crescent moon. It’s the smallest sliver of the moon I could find. If it were a photo of the New Moon, it would be just black – no moon and no image at all.

How To Know If A New Moon is Approaching

The New Moon follows a Waning Moon, which is getting smaller and smaller until it becomes the completely black New Moon. Here are two ways to determine if it’s approaching.

  1. the moon can be seen at dawn.
  2. the moon’s dark or incomplete portion to on the right and the moon is getting darker and darker, night after night from right to left.

The opposite is true in the southern hemisphere: the moon is incomplete on the left and darkens from left to right.
