Treat the Crown Chakra Naturally

Everything is made of energy, including us. Therefore, energetic healing modalities Crown chakra mandala for treat crown chakra (sahasrara) naturallylike sound, crystals, and medicinal plants can be used to tone the chakras and promote good balance and health. Plants possess diverse health and metaphysical attributes. As such you can use those with relevant attributes to treat the crown chakra naturally.

Physical health issues are manifestations or signs of energetic imbalances. They indicate chakra dysfunction and/or disturbance in one or more subtle energy bodies.

Let’s look at the crown chakra or the purple chakra to gain a better understanding of how the functioning of a chakra influences our health and well-being. To simplify and clarify, we’ll look at just one natural healing mode: aromatic plants and their derivatives, essential oils. Few people recognize the extremely powerful vibrational qualities of these oils.

Sahasrara Functions

Sahasrara, a Sanskrit word, is another name for the crown chakra. The crown is located above the head and unlike the other six main chakras, it resides outside the body.

The Sahasrara is the gateway to the subconscious, a connection to the greater universe or universal energy, a window onto non-ordinary reality, and the seat of one’s spirituality (i.e., an individual’s core beliefs about being and beyond: that which is held sacred and is related to the soul’s purpose or mission.)

In addition, the crown evokes both mystical experiences and out-of-body experiences.

Well-Functioning Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

People with a balanced or strong crown chakra tend to be joyful, purposeful, in touch with their true inner nature, and comfortable with their own form and expression of spirituality. They tend to have a sense of higher purpose (e.g. humanitarianism), are selfless, able to act without ego, and have a connection with something greater than themselves.

Dysfunctional Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

People with an imbalanced or dysfunctional crown chakra may feel that their life is without meaning or a sense of purpose, they may feel alone or incomplete and possess an intense fear of death. They may lack spirituality or be spiritually confused or indecisive. People with imbalanced crown chakras often have energetic imbalances. They may feel disassociated from, or to some degree unattached to, their physical body.

On the physical level, the crown chakra is aligned with the pineal gland, the top of the head, the cerebrum, the brain, the nervous system, the pituitary gland, and the endocrine system. The relationship between the pineal gland and the crown is particularly interesting and critical to the chakra’s function. This gland is the link between the physical and spiritual, and the source of a person’s accessible etheric energies. Thus, it’s central to the spiritual aspect of the crown chakra and the spirituality of humans. Some physical manifestations of seventh chakra dysfunction include pineal gland issues, nervous system problems, mental disorders, and depression.

Oils to Treat the Crown Chakra Naturally

In fact, the therapeutic (biochemical) attributes of essential oils are also relevant to energy work because energetic imbalances tend to eventfully manifest in the physical body. Because of this, essential oils and aromatherapy can be said to be inherently multi-dimensional and in essence integrated. For me, this makes them a wonderful bridge between subtle  (energetic) and biochemical (clinical) modalities that promote healing, balance, and wellness.

This series of Essential Oils and Chakras will give just a snapshot of how essential oils and subtle aromatherapy relate to each chakra. Of course, energetic imbalances and other health issues are complex. Typically when one chakra goes out of balance, others do too. And, chakras tend to be just one part of the energy and holistic puzzle. This blog is meant to open the door just a tiny crack to give the reader a glimpse of a much bigger body of information and practice.

Be sure to check out the rest of the series and look for future blogs that will cover the application of essential oils to other aspects of energy work such as journeying and pathfinding.

Select the plant that suits the person and unique expression of imbalance. Based on their medicinal and metaphysical attributes, match them to a chakra according to the energetic, emotional, mental, and physical attributes of the chakra.

I’m not of the opinion that a specific essential oil is always good for a particular chakra, e.g., vetiver, a classic root chakra essential oil, is NOT always helpful when working with the root chakra. For me, it depends on the manifestation of the imbalance and the specific intentions.

Common Crown Chakra Essential Oils

Some common essential oils for the crown chakra are:

  • Anise Seed (Pimpinella anisum)
  • Basil (Ocimum basilicum)
  • Benzoin (Styrax benzoin)
  • Elemi (Canarium luzonicum)
  • Frankincense (Boswellia cateri)
  • Galbanum (Ferula galbaniflua)
  • Myrtle (Myrtus communis)
  • Palo Santo (Bursea graveolens)
  • Sandalwood (Santalum album)
  • Spikenard (Nardostachys jatamansi)

Specific Applications of Common Oils

The most frequently cited essential oils for the crown chakra are frankincense and sandalwood. Both promote meditative states, encourage higher states of consciousness, expand the crown chakra, support spiritual connection and growth, and assist with the transition from life to death (or the afterlife).

Frankincense expands the aura and helps awaken one’s spiritual or soul purpose. It also works on physical manifestations of crown chakra dysfunction such as anxiety, restlessness, nervous tension, and stress-related condition, in general.

Two additional well-known Sahasrara oils are spikenard and galbanum. Beginning with spikenard, it allays fears of and prepares one for transition. It also inspires spiritual commitment and devotion and assists with animal communication, which extends to power animals and other animal spirits.

Secondly, galbanum’s unique attributes work on a psychic level, promote channeling and clear psychic blocks. It also aids meditation, expands the auric field, creates a spiritual connection, and reveals one’s life purpose.

Although less well-known than the former two oils, myrtle possesses significant crown chakra properties. It expands the auric field, creates a connection with the divine, helps access higher vibrations, stimulates and strengthens deep inner wisdom, and provides protection and support during the transition.

Finally, basil and benzoin have both significant subtle and therapeutic attributes. Basil raises vibrations, realigns subtle energies, and stimulates clairaudience and spiritual connection, including the call to service and selfless or humanitarian pursuits. On the physical level, basil addresses hysteria, indecision, and feelings of vulnerability or lack of control.

On the other hand, benzoin supports meditation and encourages spiritual journeys and astral travel. It addresses tension, stress, other nervous conditions, and depression.

Some Additional Useful Oils

Another oil worthy of note is mastic (Pistacia lentiscus) because it creates a connection and increases receptivity to spiritual guidance. An additional option is anise seed, which promotes and sharpens intuitive, telepathic, clairvoyant, and clairaudient capacities.

Next, opopanax (Commiphora guidotti) and elemi open one to mystical experiences and assist in balancing and integrating spiritual and earthly energies. Finally, palo santo helps one internalize spiritual development and identify one’s life purpose.

Oils Used Primarily For Crown-Related Physical Issues

Several essentials work primarily on the seventh chakra issues in the physical body. Angelica (Angelica archangelica) addresses nervous tension and weakness, fatigue, and especially fatigue that appears unrelated to physical exertion, feelings of hopelessness and indecision, and other stress-related conditions. Rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora) is a nervous system tonic. It balances, calms, and uplifts. It’s a good choice for those who feel overwhelmed or deadened by life’s burdens.
