Relax, Ground, and Clear the Mind Guided MeditationJust seven minutes long, this Relax, Ground, and Clear the Mind guided meditation is a slightly longer version of the kind of guided meditation that I use with clients who need a bit of grounding, calming, and/or clearing of the mind so that they can settle into our session or to ready themselves for inner work that can use the imagination, visualization or tapping into the body consciousness and its deeper embodied wisdom. (This does NOT use hypnosis).

The meditation moves my clients from their active, focused, and analytical Beta-mind into their relaxed more expansive, and creative Alpha-mind. (Beta and Alpha are two of four common brain waves all people move in and out of throughout the day). In addition to promoting relaxation, being in an Alpha mind state helps a person open his/her perspective and tap into the inside, the body-mind, and the subconscious.

Outside of a mind-body practice or coaching session, this meditation can be used to facilitate calm, peace, and relaxation. It’s very helpful for times when the mind is active or worried or a person is experiencing stress or overload. Because it increases relaxation, it also facilitates sleep: the body’s deeper state of relaxation. It’s a quick and convenient way to de-stress and reset.

Using the breath, and accompanied by gentle music and a soft guiding voice, this meditation does exactly what it says: it begins by grounding, then follows steps of progressive relaxation, and ends with the clearing of the mind.

You can diffuse just a few drops of good-quality essential oils that invoke relaxation such as lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and marjoram (Origanum majorana). See my blog post for more on aromatherapy for relaxation and reducing stress.
